Justice Ministry: Terrorism Court in Damascus arrests person on fraud and blackmail charges

Damascus, (SANA-M. Ismael/H. Said) – Jul 21, 2013 – The Public Prosecution at the Terrorism Court in Damascus has arrested a person in possession of letters demanding sums of money from the families of detainees and the names of some former judges in the court.

The Ministry said in a statement that the person (F.S.) was arrested after found damaging papers. It transpired that he was reviewing some of the cases in the court.

The ministry said that the person was arrested on fraud and blackmail charges according to the Penal Code and the articles 4 and 7 of the Law no. 19 for the year 2012 on the charge of financing terrorist acts.

Justice Ministry condemns assassination of Judge Askar in Homs

In another context, the Justice Ministry condemned in a statement the assassination of Judge Fayez Ahmad Askar at the hands of the armed terrorist groups in Homs province.

Judge Askar, who held the position of an consultant at the Court of Cassation in Damascus, was martyred of wounds sustained by shrapnel of a mortar shell fired by terrorists on al-Zahraa neighborhood in the city of Homs.
