Al-Jaafari: any military attack on Syria is violation of UN Charter and would foil investigation mission
At a press conference in New York, al-Jaafari said that the tripartite meeting of Britain, France and the United States at the Security Council is illegal and it is not consistent with the mission of preserving the international peace and security.
Al-Jaafari clarified that the Syrian government was briefed on confirmed information and cables which prove the involvement of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and other governments, including the British government, in preparing programs for using chemical weapons through European companies financed by Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
He noted that the US which is trying to pave the ground for military intervention in Syria is not a member of the Non-Proliferation of Chemical Weapons convention and it is a hypocritical state as far as the chemical weapons are concerned.
The Syrian official said, “Syria condemns the use of chemical weapons in Syria by anyone and requests to hold them accountable. Syria wants the UN investigation mission to continue investigations and make a scientific report to be presented to the Security Council for study,” calling for giving the mission enough time to come out with objective and scientific results far from political and military interferences.
From August 22nd to August 24th , horrible acts took place in Damascus; members of the Syrian Arab Army were affected by poisonous gas used by the opposition forces and these gasses are close to “the nerve gasses” or Sarin gas and tens of Syrian soldiers are being treated at hospitals because they inhaled these gasses. The Syrian government requested the UN Security Council to ask from the investigation team currently operating in Syria to immediately investigate into these crimes, al-Jaafari added.
He pointed out that there is an agreement between the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry and the investigation team which states that the period for the mission to accomplish its work is 14 days and it can be extended if the two sides agreed.
Al-Jaafari added that this recent message comes after 419 letters to the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council members since the beginning of the crisis in Syria.
Syria’s Permanent representative to the UN said that Syria is not a war advocate; Syria is a peaceful state that seeks peace and security in the region as tension would only serve the best interests of the Israeli enemy.
Al-Jaafari: Those involved in aggression on Syria serve Israeli interests only
New York – Syria’s Permanent Representative to UN, Dr. Bashar al- Jaafari, stressed that what is going on in the region is categorized under the title of ‘the Israeli interest’, and all information refer that the armed terrorist groups are responsible for using the chemical weapons in order to bring foreign military intervention and aggression against Syria.
In an interview with al-Ikhbariya TV on Tuesday, al-Jaafari revealed that what is going on in some UN closed circles is a Saudi attempt for passing a draft resolution against Syria at the UN General Assembly.
He clarified that Saudi Arabia has made some secret meetings with representatives of the US, France, Britain, Jordan, Morocco, Turkey, Germany to the UN and some other countries with the aim of adopting a draft resolution on the chemical weapon use in Syria preemptively –prior to the inspectors’ announcement of investigation results- that blames the Syrian government based on the Saudi representative to the UN’s words in some secret meetings saying the preemptive accusation is meant “to boost the chances of military force use against Syria.”
He stressed that the Saudi move indicates the volume of its involvement in aggravating the situation in Syria to enhance the chances of a military intervention against it.
Al-Jaafari said that the threat of a military intervention expresses hopelessness and frustration of those who intend to intervene in Syria.
He wondered how the three permanent Security Council members deal positively with the investigation committee report, while at least some of them are, the same time, involved in supplying armed terrorist groups with qualitative weapons including the chemical.
Al- Jaafari questioned why the the Syrian government might be interested in using chemical weapons in conjunction with the international investigators’ presence in Damascus.
He added that the West does not want to know who used the chemical weapons, as there are data that exonerate of the Syrian government.
Al-Jaafari stressed that the Syrian-Russian cooperation is strong, as Russia understands the situation quite well, adding that China is also aware of what is being hatched against Syria due to a political agenda aiming at undermining its stability.
He said that many regional groups at the UN have become upset by the western policies and the behavior of some Arab countries towards Syria, asserting that “some western ambassadors have become convinced that the western policies are unprincipled, confused, muddled and unethical.”
He added that the victories achieved by the Syrian Arab army on the ground have scared those who bet on what they called regaining the balance of power between the government and the armed terrorist groups. “Therefore, they have exploited the chemical file as it is very sensitive.”
He pointed out that the Western countries and the Turkish government flagrantly violate the UN Security Council’s resolution in regard to preventing terrorists from possessing weapons of mass destruction.
He accused these countries of allowing the armed terrorist groups to establish a laboratory to manufacture chemical weapons by Turkish, Saudi and Qatari substances and to enter these materials across the Turkish borders into Syria.
On the Western possible military aggression on Syria, al-Jaafari said that the circulation of such media reports aims at putting pressure on Damascus to obtain concessions .
Al-Jaafari added that it is in Jordan’s interest to distance itself from the involvement in the quagmire into which some sides are trying to drag the region and not to harm the Syrian-Jordanian interests. He reiterated that all sides who take part in the aggression on Syria serve the Israeli interests.
” How can the Saudi Arabia establish a UN counter-Terrorism center in New York? How can Saudi Arabia be a counter-terrorism power at the time when it is involved in it in Syria and elsewhere through encouraging fundamentalists, wahhabi and salafi movements?”, al-Jaafari enquired, adding that Turkey and Qatar are also involved in the bloodshed in Syria.
He concluded that the situation is very complicated, “We are not alone in the arena as we have lots of friends who understand what is going on on the ground and the battle now is not only Syria.”
